Three Brothers Community Garden
The Three Brothers Garden is a community vegetable garden located at Pulaski Rd. and Belle Plaine Ave. on the northwest side of Chicago. Produce grown in the garden is donated to the Irving Park Community Food Pantry for distribution to its clients. The garden is a partnership between Carlson Community Services and Irving Park Lutheran Church.
Olive’s Neighborhood Garden (Garden for the Hungry)
Olive’s Neighborhood Garden (Garden for the Hungry), 4889 N. Laramie, is an award-winning garden in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago providing handpicked produce for local residents in need. Deliveries to local pantrys are made on Sundays. The garden is worked by shared commitment between neighbors and scouts. In 2012, a “share the harvest” program was added, where home gardeners can drop off their surplus produce to be distributed to the pantry as well. Some neighbors have taken that a step further and dropped off boxed donations such as pasta along with their produce.
SRB Community Spirit Garden
Our Growing Endeavor -The SRB Community Garden will be a community managed open space- 4935 N. Central. The construction we envision is raised beds for vegetation, a shed to house tools and supplies, a pergola, benches and vertical garden structures to allow accessibility for seniors and physically challenged persons. We are planning a phased implementation approach. Our vision shows native plantings including small trees, shrubs, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. We seek to enrich the community with the knowledge of our Master Gardeners and Tree Keepers that are our stakeholders. We are committed to improving and beautifying an ignored, vacant eyesore, beginning a green space in the Jefferson Park Community by inviting and empowering residents to experience community gardening. This will be a community experience to be shared by all ages and capabilities as well as a meeting and relaxing space.
